Airport Division - Explosives Detection K-9

K-9 bag search

The Explosives Detection Canine Team at Mineta San Jose International Airport consists of several handler/canine teams and support officers.  Planned in the late 1990’s and implemented after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, the “Bomb Dog” canine teams train constantly to provide the airport with the highest quality canine protection available.  Regularly screening passengers, baggage, aircraft, and airport facilities for explosives, the teams are evaluated yearly for continued proficiency.

If you see the canine at work, do not approach the dog.  While they are not attack dogs and are generally friendly, they are working animals and are trained to respond to their handler.  Speak to the handler and he will be happy to answer any questions you might have.
