Reserve Unit – The Department
The San José Police Department was founded in 1849 with 14 sworn Peace Officers. Currently, the department exceeds 1100 full-time sworn Peace Officers and over 150 sworn Reserve Peace Officers. The Department serves the third largest City and Agency in Northern California.
The San José Police Department is responsible for the safety and protection of the residents of San José. The 177.7 square mile city is divided into 16 patrol districts and 83 beats plus Mineta San José International Airport - SJC.
