The Western Division is commanded by Captain JR Gamez. JR Gamez joined the San Jose Police Department on April 18, 1986. He worked in patrol and was then selected to work in the following specialized assignments: Special Operations- Narcotics Enforcement Team, as a Detective with the Narcotics & Covert Investigations Unit, and as Task Force Agent with the DEA. JR was promoted to Sergeant on May 15, 1994. As a sergeant, JR supervised patrol officers and was selected to work as a supervisor in the following specialized assignments: Juvenile/Missing Persons, Narcotics & Covert Investigations, DEA Task Force, Night Detective Detail and Special Operations-Street Crimes/METRO Unit. JR was promoted to Lieutenant on February 16, 2003. He served as a Patrol Watch Commander, Lieutenant of the Special Operations-Violent Crimes Enforcement Team, and as the Commander of the Homicide/Crime Scene Unit. JR was promoted to Captain on February 6, 2009, where he currently serves as the Western Division Patrol Commander.

Western Division
The Western Division is made up of four police districts: Nora, Frank, Lincoln and Sam. These districts total more than 638 “street” miles. The Western Division borders several local cities such as Los Gatos, Santa Clara, Campbell, Cupertino and Saratoga. The Western Division community policing center is located at 3707 Williams Road. Attractions in the Western Division include Valley Fair Mall, the San Jose Arena (HP Pavilion), Valley Medical Center, and the Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum.
