Western Division is commanded by Captain Richard I. Calderon. Captain Calderon was hired on November 3, 1978. He worked in patrol and then was selected to work in the following specialized assignments: Robbery Investigations, Assault Investigations, and Street Crimes.  Rich was promoted to Sergeant on October 29, 1989. As a sergeant, Rich supervised patrol officers and served as a supervisor for Fraud - Burglary Investigations, Crime Prevention, and the Pre-Processing Center. Rich was promoted to Lieutenant on May 7, 1995 where he served as a Patrol Watch Commander, Auto Theft - Vehicular Crimes Commander, Court Liaison Unit Commander, and Assaults - Juvenile Unit Commander. Rich was promoted to Captain on February 11, 2007 where he currently serves as the Western Division Commander.

Western Division

The Western Division is made up of four police districts: Nora, Frank, Lincoln and Sam.  These districts total more than 638 “street” miles.  The Western Division borders several local cities such as Los Gatos, Santa Clara, Campbell, Cupertino and Saratoga.  The Western Division community policing center is located at 3707 Williams Road.  Attractions in the Western Division include Valley Fair Mall, the San Jose Arena (HP Pavilion), Valley Medical Center, and the Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum.
