Captain Garcia was hired in February of 1992. He worked Patrol and then was selected to work the Narcotics Enforcement Team. After working in the Narcotics Enforcement Team he was selected to work in Special Operations - M.E.R.G.E (Mobile Response Group and Equipment). Captain Garcia was promoted to Sergeant in August of 2000. He worked patrol and then was selected to work as a Night Detective and later as a Homicide Investigator. Edgardo was promoted to Lieutenant in December of 2005. As a lieutenant, he commanded the Community Services Division and the Special Investigations Unit. Edgardo was promoted to Captain in February of 2010.
Central Division Mission
Members of the San Jose Police Department working in the Central Division strive to create a safe living, learning, working, and entertainment environment for the public. We are committed to forging relationships with neighborhood groups, schools, business associations, and community and faith-based organizations. Our focus is collaboration with the community and resources from the City in addressing crime and quality of life. In our partnership with the Mayor’s Gang Prevention Task Force and SNI, we aim to reduce Gang activity and youth violence, create a safe campus environment at the schools, interdict narcotic activity, reduce property crimes, investigate traffic related complaints, and address quality of life issues. The safety of the public is our number one priority.
Central Division - Description
Central division encompasses more than “412” street miles. Central Division is divided into four districts. The patrol districts are named district King, Edward, Robert, and Victor. The boundaries of the Central Division are the Guadalupe River to the West, Highway 101 to the East, Highway 280 to the South, and the San Francisco Bay/City of Milpitas to the North. The heart of Central Division is the Downtown area. Downtown is the host to many notable features of the City of San Jose. These include the McEnery Convention Center, The Center for Performing Arts, the Tech Museum of Innovation, and San Jose State University, among others. City Hall is also located in Central Division. City Hall is the hub for your city service needs. Alviso is located in the Central Division. Alviso is the home to the Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge, the first urban National Wildlife Refuge established in the United States.
