You can drive more safely if you remember to:

  • Pay attention to your driving
  • Eliminate Distractions
  • Use your cell phone when you are stopped.
  • If you are sleepy — don't drive.
  • Pull over to: read maps, put on makeup, shave your face, and discipline your children.
  • Always wear your seatbelt. NO EXCUSES
  • Slow down... SPEED KILLS.
  • Don't Drive if you've been drinking alcohol.
    Think of your other options:
    • Call a cab
    • Ride with a sober friend
    • Phone a family member and get a ride
  • Be honest about your driving limitations.
If you have poor night vision — don't drive in the dark.
If you're taking medications be honest about side effects
  • Please be responsible to your family members as well
  • If you have an elderly relative who has experienced diminished driving skills, don't wait until a collision occurs. Be proactive and helpful. Talk to them about donating their vehicle to charity. Remenber, many stores have home delivery and internet access!
  • WALK SAFELY — Pedestrains:
    • Don't walk across the street outside of sidewalks. During the past 5 years approximately 45 - 50% of fatal collisions in San jose involve pedestrians.
    • Even when walking in a crosswalk, pay attention to oncoming vehicles who might not see you. Remember, even if you have the Right-of-Way, If the driver doesn't see you — they win!
