Dan Katz

Daniel M. Katz was hired on February 25, 1982 as a lateral-entry officer from the Pacifica, CA Police Department. He worked as a patrol officer and then was selected to work in the BFO Administrative Unit.

Dan was promoted to sergeant on October 2, 1988. As a sergeant, Dan served as a supervisor in patrol and then as a detective sergeant in the Missing Persons Detail, Robbery Unit and Vice Unit. Sergeant Katz was promoted to lieutenant on December 11, 1994 and served as a patrol watch commander, Narcotics Enforcement Team commander, Violent Crime Enforcement Team commander and Vice/Criminal Intelligence Unit commander.

Lieutenant Katz was promoted to captain on March 4, 2001 and served in Bureau of Technical Services before being assigned to patrol, where he commanded both the Western and Central Divisions. Dan was subsequently assigned to the Bureau of Investigations where he commanded both the Person Crimes and General Crimes Divisions.

Captain Katz was promoted to Deputy Chief on November 20, 2005 and assigned as the head of the Bureau of Field Operations. Dan was promoted to Assistant Chief of Police on January 13, 2008. The Assistant Chief of Police is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Police Department.
