On behalf of all members of the San Jose Police Department (SJPD), I am pleased to present the SJPD's redesigned public web site, SJPD.org. The new features were developed to provide the public with timely information about the day-to-day operations of the Department, as well as interactive features and forms to help us serve you better. Our hope is that community members take advantage of new easy-to-use tools that promote interactivity with the Department. Since working with transparency is one of our goals, the Department is proud to highlight two on-line applications, Crimereports.com and Public CADmine, that enable access to important details contained within the high-volume calls-for-service data.
Technology plays such an important role for so many people, especially for those working and living in and around Silicon Valley. The Department is part of the broader community fabric and is continually trying to learn new and effective ways to leverage information technology and staff to enhance communications with the public. This focus is critical, as the timely flow of relevant information helps connect people working on shared public safety issues and supports the basic tenets of community-oriented policing: partnering and problem-solving.
As we strive to work together to reduce crime and improve the quality of life in San Jose, you will also notice we will be providing regular updates of the latest law enforcement news and information on this web site. Our focus is to ensure the information provided will assist our residents in becoming more knowledgeable about what is occurring in the neighborhoods. Through our community policing partnerships and information sharing, we can work together to heighten public awareness, because a knowledgeable community is a safer community.
Please take your time reviewing all of the information on the Department’s newly redesigned site and let us know any feedback you may have. Your ongoing input is important to us, since SJPD.org is not presented in final form; rather, the newly redesigned website is presented as a new phase in an evolutionary process whereby the Department is trying to align information with the needs and interests of the community. Changing community conditions will be reflected in changing content on the website. Our hope is that community members find the site useful and interesting, and that it serves as a fundamental reference point for additional dialogue with City and police staff.
