Vehicle Stop Demographic Study: Data Summaries
The San Jose Police Department has posted two additional Vehicle Stop Demographic Study (VSDS) data summaries to the public website. The data summaries cover two study periods, June 16, 2002 through June 16, 2003 and June 17, 2003 through June 14, 2004.
During June 2002, modifications were made to the VSDS data codes in order to effect the capture of search data relative to vehicle stops in San Jose. Once the study data codes were amended, driver ages were no longer captured (as in prior reports) in favor of data pertaining to vehicle searches. Three alpha codes were utilized by officers as options to indicate the following: no vehicle search was conducted; a vehicle search was conducted and evidence/ contraband was discovered, or; vehicle search was conducted and no evidence/ contraband was discovered.
The updated data summaries below for each of the study periods include data tables (and select graphs) that are consistent with prior VSDS reports.
