“JOIN SJPD BLUE” SPRING Presentation Series 2008

From April to July 2008, the Recruiting Unit will host an open “Presentation Series” for anyone interested or applying to SJPD as a Police Officer. You do not have to be “PHQ” qualified to attend or pass the testing process. Priority will be given to police applicants. The informational presentations will be held on THURSDAYS. Please note class times next to each description. Size will be limited to 55, so email your RSVP as soon as the RSVP DATE BEGINS!  to:  tina.boales@sanjoseca.gov

You can RSVP to attend a presentation beginning on the RSVP date noted next to each Presentation. RSVPs received before those dates will not be accepted and you will not receive a reply. You will receive a confirmation after your RSVP has been accepted (up to 3 business days). Please note that the presentations are different from the pre-test seminar. (see separate schedule for the seminar).

APRIL 24th : Becoming a SJ Officer  6-9:30pm. Presented by the SJPD Women Officers; Open to males/females. (repeats again on July 10th)
 RSVP begins on April 1st.

MAY 8th:  “Career of Opportunities”  6-8:30pm. Featuring various assignments within the SJPD.
RSVP begins on April 14th.

MAY 22nd: “SJPD Lateral Presentation”  6-8:30pm. Featuring information for CURRENT Police Officers from other California agencies or those with qualified California lateral status.
RSVP begins on April 28th.

JUNE 5th: “Special Operations”   6-9:30pm. Featuring the “SWAT” team (MERGE), the VCET and METRO teams and the Canine Unit.
RSVP begins on May 12th.

JUNE 26th: “Bureau of Investigations”  6-8:30pm. Featuring “BOI” Detectives from units such as Homicide, Crime Scenes, Robbery, Sex Crimes, etc.
RSVP begins on June 2nd.

JULY 10th: Becoming a SJ Officer” 6-9:30pm. Presented by the SJPD women officers; Open to males/females. (repeat of April 24th).
RSVP begins on June 9th.

Presentation Descriptions

“Becoming a SJ Officer” (male/female) presented by the women SJPD Officers.
April 24th and July 10th. 6-9:30pm. The San Jose Police women officers invite you to come and find out what you really need to know about being a San Jose Police Officer and the SJPD Academy and Field Training Program. Come and listen to what it”s like to be a male/female officer and what support and family friendly policies are here at the SJPD. Are you a male or female wanting to know how to best prepare for the Police Physical Agility test and how to perform well in the academy PT? A personal trainer will also be presenting information to give you tips about physical fitness and nutrition. We will also host a panel of officers to answer your questions about applying and working in different assignments within the department. Open to men/women applying or interested in being a police officer at the SJPD. Bring your spouse or significant other!
RSVP starts on April 1st (April 24th) and June 9th (July 10th).

“Career of Opportunities”   May 8th 6-8:30pm. What police assignments are in your future? Come and learn about the over 67 different assignments that the SJPD has to offer! This presentation will cover specialized unit application and selection process as well as promotional opportunities. We will feature various officers and supervisors from different units who will give you information to help you decide your career path at the SJPD.
RSVP starts on April 14th.

“SJPD Lateral Presentation”   May 22nd 6-8:30pm. Are you currently a Police Officer working with another agency desiring to transfer to SJPD? Find out what is in store for you and what application, testing and background requirements are needed. Learn about some of the compensation, benefits and other opportunities that are offered. There will be Police Personnel and POA Union reps on hand to answer your questions. We will feature other lateral officers now working at SJPD. This presentation will assist you in making the right decision to change agencies. Confidentiality will be maintained and a police ID is required to attend.
RSVP starts on April 28th.

“Special Operations”    June 5th 6-9:30pm. This exciting presentation will feature some of our action units such as the “SWAT” team (MERGE), Canines, METRO, VCET (violent crimes team) Motors and Air Support. Find out what it takes to be a part of these teams!
You will get to experience some of the “tools of the trade” such as the SWAT teams specialized armored vehicle and equipment, METRO/VCET”s enforcement “tools”, police motorcycles and of course, our fury friends, the police canines.
RSVP begins on May 12th.

Bureau of Investigations”  June 26th 6-8:30pm. Come and enter the world of murders, robberies, crime scenes and more. Have you ever wanted to play “Cops and Robbers”, solve an intriguing homicide or catch a sexual predator?  Learn about becoming a “Detective” and what application, testing, training and experience is required. Speak to a Detective and get your questions answered about working with some of San Jose”s finest!
