Christian N. wrote the following thank you to Officer Josh Cote:
Recently, we found out that our daughter left town with a 22 year old male who she met on the internet. As soon as this trip started she began to be physically abused by this man, was beaten, and received numerous black eyes. She was threatened that if she tried to leave harm would come to her family and that she would be killed. She was unable to get away from him and was terrified for her life.
Officer josh Cote was the first officer from the SJPD to come to our home and begin to investigate my daughter's ordeal. While other officers came to our home, it was the actions of Officer Cote that made the difference in the investgation and who spurred the FBI into taking affirmative action toward rescuing my daughter. Officer Cote spent 5-6 hours with our family taking information, interacting with the FBI, asking pertinent questions but most important of all conducting himself in a very professional manner and giving us the feeling that he empathized with our situation and had the interests or our daughter at heart. He was all that you would want a police officer to be.
A letter of commendation is inadequate. But I have one that I think sums it up. In the words of my daughter, "you have no idea what I went through and I am so grateful for getting me out alive." Officer Cote can pin that statement on his shirt and wear it for the rest of his professional career. He truly made a difference in someone's life. I hope he is proud of himself as my wife and I are, and my daughter will never forget him for the rest of her life. I believe Officer Cote saved her life. Chief, here is a cop that I hope spends a long career with the SJPD and who deserves all the recognition a letter like this can bring. God Bless him.
