OPERATION "B-STING"
               
 
San Jose:
On Wednesday, 5/30/2012, the San Jose Police Department carried out a large scale prostitution enforcement operation titled "OPERATION B-STING."  The operation was named after California Penal Code section 647 with a lower case subsectiion "b."  This operation involved 4 separate prostitution enforcement sites.  The 4 separate operations were conducted by the Special Operations METRO Unit, the Sexual Assaults Investigations Unit, the Covert Response Unit and the Patrol Division.  Three of the operations utilized undercover female police officers to arrest customers for solicitation for prostitution. One operation concentrated on arresting prostitutes at a hotel for solicitation of prostitution.

OPERATION B-STING involved a total 63 officers who made 31 arrests for prostitution and 1 arrest for loitering with intent to solicit prostitution for a total of 32 arrests. OPERATION B-STING involved a combination of officers working their regular scheduled shifts and officers working in an overtime capacity from assorted units throughout the department.

Daytime Operation

The Metro Unit held a street level "john decoy" operation on South First Street. They made 8 arrests of adult males for solicitation of prostitution.

The Patrol Division held a street level "john decoy" operation on Alum Rock Avenue. They made 10 arrests of adult males for solicitation of prostitution.

Afternoon/Evening Operation

The Sexual Assaults Investigation Unit conducted a hotel level "john decoy" operation. They made 8 arrests of adult males for solicitation of prositiutiion and one arrest of an adult male for loitering with the intent to commit prostitution.  The involved hotels were located near San Jose International Airport. 

The Covert Response Unit also conducted a hotel level prostitution operation in. They made 5 arrests of adult females for solicitation of prostitution. One of the arrestees was a reported missing person out of Modesto. Officers removed her from the missing person database after determining that she was an adult voluntary missing person.
