On June 27th, 2012, at approximately 12:04 PM, San Jose Police Officers responded to the Meriwest Credit Union located in the 5600 block of Cottle Road on a report of a silent bank alarm. Upon arrival at the above location, officers determined that a lone suspect entered the bank and threatened a teller that he had a gun. The suspect demanded cash. The teller gave the suspect an undisclosed quantity of cash. The suspect then fled the bank on foot.

The suspect fled to a nearby neighborhood, where he encountered a 19 year old female sitting in a vehicle. The victim, who had just left a nearby Bible school, feared for her life when the suspect jumped into her vehicle and told her to drive. Believing she was in physical danger, the victim drove the suspect away from the scene. The Robbery Unit responded directly to the scene. While en-route to the scene, Robbery Detectives received information that the suspect was in the area of Winfield Blvd. and Chynoweth Avenue. Detectives, along with patrol officers, responded to Chynoweth Avenue and located the suspect and victim in the victim's vehicle.

The Detectives and Patrol Officers initiated a high-risk car stop on the vehicle. Officers rescued the victim and took the suspect into custody without incident. The victim, who was unharmed, was later interviewed at the Police Department and released. Detectives were able to recover almost all of the money taken from the bank. Detectives determined that the suspect was on parole for robbery and was absconding parole. The suspect was booked into jail for robbery, carjacking, kidnapping and false imprisonment.
