San Jose:
The San Jose Police Department has arrested a suspect in a string of armed robberies of small businesses in San Jose. Suspect Jorge Moran was taken into custody Tuesday night. The San Jose Police Department's Robbery Unit had been investigating the series of robberies, which occurred between June 14th and June 21st. In each case, the suspect entered the business, fired one round into the ceiling with a handgun, and demanded money. No persons were injured during any of the robberies. Detectives dubbed the unknown suspect "South Park Kenny," after the cartoon character whose head and face are always covered by a hood. During their investigation, detectives developed a description of the suspect's vehicle.
On Tuesday, June 26th, Robbery Detectives attended the swing-shift patrol briefing and disseminated flyers containing information regarding the case to the patrol officers. Within several hours, a patrol officer working in Southern Division located a vehicle matching the suspect vehicle description on Santa Rosa Drive. Special Operations METRO Officers were called in to conduct surveillance on the vehicle. During their surveillance, the METRO Officers observed a male later identified as the suspect climbing into the truck through the rear window. The officers stopped the male and durnig a subsequent pat-search for weapons, located a loaded handgun.
Officers identified the suspect as 26 year old Jorge Moran, a San Jose Resident. Officers determined that Suspect Moran was on active parole. Officers conducted a parole search at the suspect's residence and found additional evidence implicating Suspect Moran in the robberies. Suspect Moran was booked into jail for three counts of armed robbery.
A video of the suspect firing a gun in one of the robberies can be seen on the SJPD Youtube channel which can be found with following link:
