On Tuesday, August 21, 2012, at approximately 8:37 p.m., San Jose Fire paramedics responded to the Safeway grocery store, 3002 Story Road, on a report of a male adult who had suffered a medical emergency. Paramedics contacted the patient inside the store and determined he was suffering from at least one stab wound. Firefighter paramedics called for police assistance. The victim, identified as Juan Munoz, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The suspect, identified as 27-year-old Michael Howard of San Jose, fled prior to the arrival of emergency personnel, but was arrested on 8/22/12 at his residence in San Jose.
The circumstances and motive surrounding the stabbing remain under investigation. No further details are being released.
