Media Advisory-Choking (Halloween candy)
Filed under Press Release, on 11/1/2009 3:46:00 PM by Author: Officer Jermaine Thomas #3522.

MEDIA ADVISORY

San Jose:
On Sunday, November 1, 2009, at 10:12 AM, San Jose Police Officers were doing vendor enforcement in the area of San Antonio St. at Sunset Ave.

Officers observed children playing in the area when one officer observed a 2 year old juvenile boy. The juvenile boy appeared to be having trouble breathing, choking and panicking when the officer made contact with him. The officer started patting the boy on the back and the boy continued choking and then turning blue. The officer then conducted the Heimlich maneuver which dislodged the hard piece of candy that was stuck inside the boys throat.

The juvenile boy was released to his parents.

The San Jose Police Department reminds parents, guardians and babysitters to know where your children are. If you have to leave them, even momentarily, make sure that someone else is watching them for you and watching what pieces of candy they are eating with Halloween just passing.
