San Jose, Calif. - On Friday, September 15, at approximately 7:04 PM, San Jose police officers were in the area of Penitencia Creek Road and N. White Road attempting to conduct a vehicle stop on a known gang member who had a felony warrant for armed robbery.  The suspect was known to be armed and was aware police were looking for him.  The suspect had eluded officers earlier in the day by driving erratic and dangerous on city streets and the highway.  Officers from the Department's Covert Response Unit (CRU) conducted a high risk vehicle stop on the suspect and he became uncooperative.  At some point shots were fired and the suspect was struck at least one time by the gunfire.  The suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene. No officers were injured during the incident.

This suspect had an extensive violent criminal record which included weapon and drug priors.   

The officer was placed on routine paid administrative leave. The Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office and the San Jose Police Department's Homicide Unit are conducting a joint criminal investigation. The case is being monitored by the San Jose Police Department's Internal Affairs Unit, the City Attorney’s Office, and the Office of the Independent Police Auditor.
