Suspect Haamid Zaid
San Jose:
The San Jose Police Department is currently investigating an assault with a deadly weapon incident at WalMart located at 777 Story Road. On 3/31/2013, at approximately 11:15 AM, the Police Department's 9-1-1 Communications Center received a report of a vehicle that drove into the WalMart store at the above location. The driver, later identified as Haamid Zaid, immediately exited the vehicle, armed himself a blunt object and began to physically assault customers in the store. One victim suffered a serious, but non-life threatening injury and was transported to a local area hospital where he remains. In addition, three other victims were treated for non-life threatening injuries at the scene and released.
The suspect Zaid was subdued by customers inside the store and held down until police arrived.  When officers arrived on scene they took custody of the suspect after a brief struggle and placed him under arrest.  The suspect was transported to a local area hospital before being booked into the Santa Clara County Jail.  The suspect was booked on four counts of assault with a deadly weapon, hit and run, under the influence of drugs and resisting arrest.
No other information is being released at this time.
