SJPD is investigating an Officer Involved Shooting that occurred on 4-21-17

San Jose, Calif. - On Friday, April 21, 2017, at approximately 12:35 PM, San Jose officers responded to the area of Lewis Road and Senter Road on a call of a male with a knife threatening people.  The call was updated when witnesses reported the same male stabbing himself. When the initial officer arrived, the suspect confronted the officer and the officer began to immediately give the suspect commands. The suspect ignored the commands and charged at the officer with the knife in his hand in threatening manner. In defense of his life and others in the area, the officer discharged his firearm striking the suspect at least once. The suspect was subsequently taken into custody and transported to a local hospital where he is listed in critical condition. 

Suspect Tran was paper booked into the Santa Clara County Jail for Attempted Murder - 664/187 PC.

The officer was placed on routine paid administrative leave. The Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office and the San Jose Police Department's Homicide Unit are conducting a joint criminal investigation. The case is being monitored by the San Jose Police Department's Internal Affairs Unit, the City Attorney’s Office, and the Office of the Independent Police Auditor.
