SJPD Arrest Suspect Involved in a Burglary/Vandalism at Preschool

San Jose:

On May 4, 2017 at approximately 6:10 AM, a commercial burglary at “Tomorrow Montessori” Preschool located at 2466 Almaden Road.  The suspect, later identified as Leticia Tavares Monila, forced entry into the school by breaking a window.  Once inside the school, the suspect vandalized the property and took items. 

The estimated damage to the school was approximately $10, 000 dollars.  The school was forced to shut down for repairs which affected over 115 students and community members.

Officers conducted follow up investigation and Sgt. Teresa Jeglum and her southern division team identified the suspect.  Financial Crimes Detective Khuong Nguyen and Sergeant Rich Bravo provided follow up assistance.

On Friday, May 12, 2017 at approximately 1:11 AM, patrol officers located the suspect in the area of S 1st street and E Alma Avenue in San Jose.  The suspect was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Santa Clara County Jail for burglary, felony vandalism and possession of drugs.

Assistant Chief Dave Knopf said, “This case highlights the continued professionalism and tenacity exhibited by our officers. Their dedication and compassion ensured justice was provided for the kids and community members affected by these crimes.”
