SJPD Arrests 12 Suspects for Violent Robberies, Carjackings, & Other Crimes

Violent Robbery / Carjacking Investigation

San Jose, Calif. — More than 50 San Jose Police officers conducted a large-scale operation last week targeting a violent criminal gang responsible for a series of robberies, carjackings, burglaries, and a shooting. Officers made multiple arrests and seized stolen property and weapons during the operation.

The crew was responsible for at least 30 robberies and carjackings in San Jose since the summer of 2017. During one of the robberies, the victim was assaulted and suffered a serious head injury. The gang often used stolen vehicles and firearms during the crime spree.

On Wednesday, January 10, 2018, the San Jose Police Department's Robbery Unit, in conjunction with the Gang Investigations Unit (GIU), Covert Response Unit (CRU), Special Operations and Patrol, with assistance from the Santa Clara County Regional Auto Theft Task Force (RATTF) and Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office Crime Strategies Unit, served a total of 8 search and arrest warrants in the City of San Jose and 1 in the City of Morgan Hill.

Seven adults and five juveniles (ages 15 to 17) were arrested. Subsequently, the adults were booked into the Santa Clara County Jail and the juveniles were booked into Santa Clara County Juvenile Hall on multiple charges, including; robbery, carjacking, burglary, assault with a deadly weapon, resisting arrest, child endangerment, possession of a loaded firearm, possession of stolen property, possession of drugs, and gang enhancement.

The following items were seized as evidence:

  • 7 firearms
  • One carjacked vehicle was recovered
  • $2,000 in US Currency
  • Ammunition
  • Replica firearms 
  • Stun gun, pepper spray & knives
  • Stolen property (laptops, tablets, keys and key fobs)
