DETAILS: Residents voluntarily turning in unwanted weapons to the San Jose Police Department during the city’s latest gun buyback this weekend will get more in return than just cash and the comfort that they are helping reduce gun violence. The San Jose Museum of Quilts and Textiles will also be providing lap comfort quilts, while supplies last.

The San Jose Police Department Gun Buyback Program will be held on Saturday, December 1, 2018, at San Jose Police Department Substation, 6087 Great Oaks Parkway in San Jose.

Guns collected will be checked for lost or stolen status, and if applicable, will be returned to their legal owners. All other firearms will be prepared for destruction.

Funding for this important event is raised from public and private donors and tax-deductible donated funds are held by San Jose Police Foundation, a non-profit 501(c)(3) account. Planning and fundraising to support this event is a city and community-wide effort. If you’d like to get involved, please contact Kate Levin at Kate@SanJosePoliceFoundation.org.

Those who turn in a gun will receive cash. $100 will be given for handguns, rifles and shotguns, and $200 for Assault Weapons.  Participants will also receive a free gun lock, additional resources regarding firearm and suicide prevention, and gun safety.

Transport UNLOADED weapons in the trunk of your car. No walk-ups. No ammunition. Funds are limited. We reserve the right to limit funds to an individual, regardless of the number of weapons surrendered. Weapons must be functional.
