WHAT: National Night Out 2018
WHO: San Jose Police Department and San Jose Community
WHEN: Tuesday, August 7, 2018
WHERE: Communities Throughout the City of San Jose

On Tuesday, August 7th, neighborhoods throughout San José will once again join forces with thousands of communities nationwide for the 35th Annual National Night Out.  National Night Out will involve over 17,000 communities from all 50 States, U.S. Territories, Canadian cities and military bases around the world. In all, over 38 million people are expected to participate in “America’s Night Out Against Crime”.

National Night Out is designed to: (1) Heighten crime and drug awareness; (2) Generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime efforts; (3) Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police/community partnerships; and (4) Send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and working together to promote safety.

On August 7th, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., residents in neighborhoods throughout San José and across the nation are asked to lock their doors, turn on outside lights and spend an evening outside with neighbors and police.  Many neighborhoods throughout San José will be hosting a variety of special events such as block parties, cookouts, ice cream socials, barbeque and informal gatherings. National Night Out events don’t have to be big or expensive. The important thing is to spend some time enjoying your neighborhood and getting to know your neighbors while relaxing in the front yard with neighbors and watch the kids play. You’ll be supporting crime prevention efforts in San José while celebrating your neighborhood.

This year, approximately 185 neighborhoods are registered and many more unregistered San José neighborhoods will show their support for National Night Out by enjoying an evening with their neighbors and local police officers.  Questions regarding this event should be directed to the San José Police Department Crime Prevention Unit at (408) 277-4133.  We hope you will join us on Tuesday, August 7th and Give Crime & Drugs a Going Away Party.
