San Jose PD Establishes New Burglary Prevention Unit to Enhance Police Services
Filed under Press Release, on 10/5/2018 4:58:00 PM by Author: Sergeant Enrique Garcia #2936.

San Jose, Calif. - The San Jose Police Department has established a new Burglary Prevention Unit (BPU) as a proactive unit within the Bureau of Investigations that will utilize specialized investigative techniques to target the most active and prolific criminals in the City of San Jose.

BPU will be responsible for the investigation and apprehension of individuals or groups involved in property related crimes with a focus on burglaries and thefts, but the scope may vary based on investigative needs. BPU will work with other SJPD units, Bay Area law enforcement agencies, and the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office Crime Strategies Unit.

BPU will use data driven analytics to target areas of San Jose that are experiencing high burglary rates; will work closely with the San Jose PD Financial Crimes Unit to recognize and focus on burglary crews, trends and burglary strings; and will inspect and enforce pawn shop regulations.

We encourage the community to take advantage of this enhanced police service and partner with San Jose PD by providing information about suspicious or ongoing criminal activity by filling out our BPU Tip Line form at

Persons wishing to remain anonymous may either call the Crime Stoppers Tip Line, (408) 947-STOP (7867), or click the "Submit a Tip" link below. Persons providing information leading to the arrest and conviction of suspects may be eligible for a cash reward from the Silicon Valley Crime Stoppers.
