SJPD Arrests Two Suspects for 4-6-2020 Homicide: 300 block of La Strada Dr., San Jose

San Jose, Calif. - On Monday, April 6, 2020, at about 7:34 PM, San Jose police officers responded to a welfare check of a person inside a vehicle in the 300 block of La Strada Drive in San Jose. Arriving officers located victim Zane Groves suffering from at least one stab wound. Victim Groves was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Follow-up investigation by homicide detectives led to the identification of suspects Jason Koplin and Violet Smyth. On Wednesday, April 15, 2020, members of the FBI Fugitive Task Force arrested Jason Koplin on a murder warrant and Violet Smyth on an accessory after the fact warrant. They were both arrested in Las Vegas, Nevada and booked into Clark County Detention Center where they await extradition to San Jose. 

This is the City’s 9th homicide of 2020.
