Victim / Witness Assistance Program:
All California counties have a Victim / Witness Assistance Center, which may be able to help you with many of the problems victims must deal with, including:
- emergency help in obtaining food, shelter, and clothing
- referrals to community programs, including counseling, for help with specific problems
- help in filling compensation claims under the Victims of Crime Act
- guidance in dealing with the court process
- transportation to and from court, and even child care if you're in court
- assistance in recovering stolen property and obtaining restraining orders
- help in dealing with employers, medical care providers, and creditors
Crime victims may experience problems and disruptions that require special attention and support. The Victim Witness Assistance Center was created to assure that every possible benefit, service and courtesy is made available to crime victims and witnesses.
