On October 24, 2023, at approximately 8:42 PM, patrol Officers responded to a major injury collision involving two vehicles in the area of Blossom Hill Road and Winfield Boulevard. The preliminary investigation revealed the following:
A 2008 black Nissan sedan occupied by a pregnant adult female driver was traveling eastbound on Blossom Hill Road when it was involved in a collision with a 2013 white Hyundai sedan that was traveling southbound on Winfield Boulevard.
The white Hyundai sedan was occupied by two unknown males who fled on foot from the vehicle immediately after the collision. During the course of the investigation it was determined that the Hyundai was an unreported stolen vehicle.
The pregnant female driver was transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries where she was subsequently pronounced deceased. Emergency surgery was initiated on the driver and her child was successfully delivered, but in critical condition. On October 25, 2023, SJPD was notified that the infant succumbed to sustained injuries and was pronounced deceased.
This is the 42nd fatal collision, and the 43rd and 44th traffic death of 2023.
The identity of the victim will be released by the Santa Clara County Coroner's Office after confirming the victim’s identity and notifying next of kin.
