On July 20, 2024, at approximately 10:50 PM, San José Police Department Patrol Officers responded to a report of a person shot at an unsanctioned car show event occurring in the area of Monterey Road and Southside Drive. Upon arrival, Officers located two adult male victims suffering from at least one gun shot wound each. The preliminary investigation revealed that a fight broke out between two groups. An adult male suspect, unrelated to the fight, approached them, produced a handgun and began shooting into the air. The suspect then proceeded to shoot at one of the adult male victims.
Both victims were treated at a local hospital, one for life-threatening injuries and the other for non-life threatening injuries.

SJPD Assaults Unit Detectives began a thorough investigation and identified the primary suspect as Damian Flores and a secondary suspect as Nicholas Perez. Detectives obtained arrests warrants for both suspects.
On August 28, 2024, with the assistance of the SJPD Covert Response Unit, suspect Flores was located and arrested in the city of San José and booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail for attempted murder. Suspect Perez was located and arrested in the city of Campbell and booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail as an accessory to the attempted murder.
