On August 16, 2024, at approximately 1:40 PM, San José Police Department Patrol Officers responded to a business located in the 100 block of East San Salvador Street for a report of an armed robbery. An adult male suspect entered the business, began a verbal argument with the victim employee, and then proceeded to collect multiple alcoholic beverages in an attempt to leave the business without paying. The victim blocked the suspect's path at which point the suspect shoved the victim and displayed a firearm tucked in his waistband. The suspect fled the scene prior to police arrival.
SJPD Robbery Unit Detectives were able to identify Luis Garcia as the suspect responsible for the armed robbery through vital evidence collected on scene by Patrol Officers. A subsequent investigation revealed that suspect Garcia was tied to another armed robbery that occurred on September 19, 2024, at approximately 6:50 PM, at a business located in the 2100 block of Fruitdale Avenue.
In this incident, suspect Garcia again entered the business and fled the scene without paying for a bottle of alcohol. The victim employees confronted the suspect outside the business at which point the suspect also brandished a firearm and fled the scene in a vehicle.
Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for the suspect and a search warrant for his residence.
On October 9, 2024, with the assistance of the SJPD Covert Response Unit, suspect Garcia was located and arrested in the city of San José. During the execution of the search warrant, Detectives located a privately made firearm and narcotics for sale.

Suspect Garcia was booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail for various crimes including armed robbery.
