On March 14, 2025, at approximately 5:05 AM, the San José Police Department responded to a report of an armed robbery that occurred at a convenience store located in the 400 block of South Kiely Boulevard. Three unidentified male suspects entered the business, with two brandishing firearms. One suspect brandished a black handgun while another suspect brandished a black rifle at a victim employee. The victim was then struck in the head with the end of the handgun and sustained a non-life-threatening injury. The two armed suspects forcefully grabbed the victim and pushed him towards the cash register. The suspects forced the victim to open the cash register and stole several hundred dollars prior to fleeing the scene.

SJPD Robbery Unit Detectives immediately began a comprehensive investigation into the incident. The preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects were likely related to two additional convenience store armed robberies in the city of Santa Clara on March 12, 2025, and Union City on March 14, 2025. SJPD Robbery Detectives immediately began collaborating with Santa Clara Police Department (SCPD) and Union City Police Department (UCPD) Detectives. Through this collaborative effort, Detectives identified the suspect vehicle.
On March 14, 2025, just after 2:00 PM, the SCPD notified SJPD that they had located the suspect vehicle unoccupied. SJPD Robbery Unit Detectives worked diligently with SJPD and SCPD Special Operations Units to conduct immediate follow up. In doing so, SJPD Detectives identified four suspects: Blay Tacha Mellizo, Juan Hernandez Estrada, Andrey Guedez Melo, and a juvenile male suspect.
During the execution of a search warrant at an associated location, Detectives seized two replica firearms believed to have been used during the commission of the robberies.

The three adult suspects were booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail and the juvenile suspect was booked into the Santa Clara Juvenile Hall all for armed robbery.
