On March 15, 2025, at approximately 8:14 pm, Officers responded to a report of an attempted homicide that occurred in the 800 block of N. 4th Street. Upon arrival, Officers located an adult male victim suffering from at least one gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a local hospital with injuries later determined to be non-life threatening. During the course of the investigation, Officers discovered a bullet had traveled into a residence nearby and fortunately resulted in no additional victims. The unidentified suspect fled the scene prior to police arrival.
San José Police Department Assaults Unit Detectives began a comprehensive investigation into the incident and identified Gabriel Alvarado Ochoa as the primary suspect. Detectives then obtained an arrest warrant.
On March 25, 2025, with the assistance of the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office Gun Violence Task Force, LA Impact Regional Task Force, Los Angeles Police Department and US Marshals, Suspect Alvarado Ochoa was apprehended in the city of Los Angeles. The suspect was booked into the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Detention Center.
On March 26, 2025, SJPD Assaults Unit Detectives extradited the suspect back to San José and later booked him into Santa Clara County Main Jail for attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon.
The motive and circumstances surrounding the event are still under investigation.
