On November 26, 2019, at approximately 5:26 PM, San José Police Department Patrol Officers responded to the 2000 Block of Monterey Road for a report of a collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian. The preliminary investigation revealed the following:

A 2009 black Toyota sedan, occupied by an adult female driver, was traveling northbound on Monterey Road when it struck an adult male pedestrian that was walking eastbound across Monterey Road outside of any marked crosswalk. The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, but later stabilized and was placed in a long-term care facility.

On April 16, 2025, the Santa Clara County Coroner's Office notified SJPD that the pedestrian had succumbed to his injuries incurred from the collision and was pronounced deceased on April 11, 2025.

This was the 59th fatal traffic death of 2019.

The identity of the victim will be released by the Santa Clara County Coroner's Office.
