On April 19, 2025, at approximately 9:01 PM, San José Police Department patrol officers responded to the area of San Tomas Expressway and Moorpark Avenue for a report of a solo vehicle collision involving an overturned vehicle. The preliminary investigation revealed the following:

A 2005 beige Nissan sedan, occupied by an adult male driver and an adult female passenger, was traveling northbound on San Tomas Expressway at a high rate of speed when it lost control and veered off the roadway just south of Moorpark Avenue. The vehicle then collided with a stump east of the roadway and overturned. The adult female passenger sustained catastrophic injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene.

The adult male driver was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries and later stabilized. He was taken into custody and will be booked into the Santa Clara County Jail for vehicular manslaughter upon his release from the hospital.

The identity of the victim will be released by the Santa Clara County Coroner's Office.
