SJPD Arrests Suspect for Gang-Motivated Vandalism Spree

Between March 26, 2025 and April 11, 2025, the City of San José and the San José Police Department received several reports of gang-motivated vandalism incidents throughout the city of San José. Many of these vandalisms were reported through the City of San José’s 3-1-1 app.

Detectives from the SJPD Gang Investigations Unit (GIU) began an investigation into the vandalism string and discovered the suspect was responsible for at least nineteen separate vandalism incidents. Detectives immediately identified the primary suspect as Josiah Lopez-Villalobos.

On April 11, 2025, Suspect Lopez-Villalobos was detained by SJPD Gang Suppression Officers during a pedestrian stop where Officers discovered a concealed firearm and spray paint on his person. Suspect Lopez-Villalobos was arrested and booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail for firearm-related crimes, in addition to gang-motivated felony vandalism.

On April 14, 2025, GIU Detectives coordinated with the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office to add gang enhancement charges for Suspect Lopez-Villalobos. The San José Police Department would like the thank the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office for their collaboration on this case to hold the suspect accountable.
