On April 23, 2023, at approximately 12:03 AM, San José Police Department Officers responded to the area of Berryessa Road and Piedmont Road for a report of a traffic collision involving two vehicles. The preliminary investigation revealed the following:
A 2007 beige Honda sedan, occupied by an adult male driver and two adult male passengers, was traveling westbound on Berryessa Road through its intersection with Piedmont Road when it was broadsided by a 2015 black Ford SUV. The Ford SUV, occupied by an adult male driver, an adult female passenger, and two juvenile male passengers, was traveling southbound on Piedmont Road with a green traffic signal when the collision occurred.
The adult male driver and one adult male passenger of the Honda sedan, fled the scene of the accident leaving a second adult male passenger unconscious inside the vehicle. All occupants of the Ford vehicle remained on scene and were cooperative with the investigation.
The unconscious adult male passenger was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries where he was later stabilized.
On April 26, 2025, the passenger succumbed to his injuries as a result of the collision and was pronounced deceased.
This is the 48th fatal collision and 50th traffic death of 2023.
The identity of the victim will be released by the Santa Clara County Coroner's Office.
