On May 22, 2025, at approximately 2:22 AM, Officers responded to a report of a burglary and an assault with the intent to commit a sex crime in the downtown area of San José. Upon arrival, Officers discovered an adult male suspect had entered an adult female survivor's residence through an unlocked door. The suspect then entered the survivor's bedroom while she was sleeping and laid on top of her. SJPD Sexual Assault Investigations Unit Detectives immediately began a comprehensive investigation into the incident. During the course of the investigation, Patrol Officers recognized the suspect's description as matching that of a subject they had a consensual encounter with the night prior to the incident.
