On May 30, 2025, at approximately 2:46 AM, San José Police Department Officers responded to the area of Almaden Avenue and Virginia Street for a report of a hit-and-run traffic collision involving a vehicle and two pedestrians. The preliminary investigation revealed the following:

A 2019 blue Nissan Sentra, occupied by an adult male driver, was traveling westbound on Virginia Street approaching Almaden Avenue when it struck two pedestrians traveling westbound on Virginia Street on the north edge of the westbound lane. One pedestrian was an adult male in a wheelchair, and the other an adult female.

As a result of the collision, the adult male in the wheelchair struck a parked vehicle on the north side of Virginia Street. The adult male pedestrian was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased. The adult female pedestrian sustained non-life threatening injuries.

The vehicle fled the scene and was later located by Patrol Officers. The driver was arrested and booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail for the hit-and-run collision, vehicular manslaughter, and driving under the influence.

This is the 11th fatal collision and 11th traffic death of 2025. This is also the 6th pedestrian death of 2025.

The identity of the victim will be released by the Santa Clara County Coroner's Office.
