On June 24, 2025, at approximately 10:00 PM, San José Police Department Patrol Officers responded to a report of a stabbing at a residence in the 1300 block of Alvernaz Drive in the city of San José. Upon arrival, Officers located two adult male victims, each suffering from at least one stab wound. They were informed that the known suspect was still inside the residence. Officers contacted the suspect and safely took him into custody without incident.
One of the victims was unresponsive and not breathing. Officers immediately began emergency medical aid and summoned paramedics to the scene. Despite their efforts, the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The second victim’s injuries were determined to be non-life-threatening.
The San José Police Department Homicide Unit responded and initiated a thorough investigation. Detectives learned that all individuals involved were known to each other and had been engaged in a verbal dispute prior to the stabbing. The motive and full circumstances remain under investigation.
The suspect was identified as 44-year-old Buu Trinh of San José. Following the initial investigation and his arrest at the scene, Suspect Trinh was transported and subsequently booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail for murder.
The identity of the victim will be released by the Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office.
This is the City's 12th homicide of 2025.
