On May 30, 2025, at approximately 8:51 AM, San José Police Department Police Officers responded to the area of Sunset Avenue and Cinderella Lane for a report of a hit-and-run traffic collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian. The preliminary investigation revealed the following:
A 2019 white Chevy Silverado, occupied by an adult male driver, was traveling southbound on Sunset Avenue when it struck an adult male pedestrian who was crossing Sunset Avenue at Cinderella Lane in a marked crosswalk.
The vehicle fled the scene prior to police arrival. The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital and later stabilized with non-life threatening injuries.
On June 16, 2025, the suspect driver was arrested and booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail for the hit and run collision.
On July 16, 2025, the Santa Clara County Office of the Medical Examiner advised SJPD Traffic Investigations Unit Detectives that the pedestrian succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased on July 15, 2025. Charges are expected to be amended for the suspect driver to include vehicular manslaughter.
This is the 16th fatal collision and 16th traffic death of 2025. This is also the 8th pedestrian fatality of 2025.
The identity of the victim will be released by the Office of the Medical Examiner.
