***UPDATE*** SJPD Arrests Suspect for Triple Homicide

On September 16, 2025, at approximately 12:26 AM, the San José Police Department received multiple calls of gun shots heard and a woman screaming for help in the 200 block of Chynoweth Avenue. Officers responded to the scene and located an adult female victim outside the residence, suffering from at least one gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries. She later succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased.

Additionally, Officers located a second adult female victim and an adult male victim inside the residence, both suffering from at least one gunshot wound. The second female victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. The male victim was transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries. The male victim later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased. The unidentified suspect fled the scene prior to police arrival. 

SJPD Homicide Unit Detectives responded to the scene and began a thorough investigation. During the course of the investigation, and with the assistance of the Real Time Intelligence Center, Detectives identified Joseph Vicencio as the primary suspect. 

On September 17, 2025, Detectives, with the assistance of the Covert Response Unit and Special Operations MERGE Unit, located and apprehended Suspect Vicencio in the city of San José. The suspect was booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail for murder.

The identity of the victims will be released by the Santa Clara County Office of the Medical Examiner.

The motive and circumstances surrounding the incident are still under investigation. 

This incident was the City's 19th, 20th, and 21st homicide of 2025.

"Our Detectives acted swiftly, working around the clock to put this violent suspect behind bars," SJPD Chief Paul Joseph stated. "But that doesn't change the fact that three innocent lives were taken. This tragedy has affected the families of the three victims, the suspect's family, and our entire San José community. I hope that as the case moves through the justice system and this suspect is held accountable for his actions, we can bring some sort of peace and healing after such a tragic loss."

“Our Police Department has proven once again that if you harm one of our residents, you will be held accountable,” said San José Mayor Matt Mahan. “I want to thank our detectives for their incredible, thorough, and quick work to ensure the safety of the entire community. I’m praying for the families of all three victims and hope that this gives them confidence that justice will be served.” 

“I am devastated about the tragic incident that happened in our city yesterday. My deepest condolences go out to the families of the victims,” said City Manager Jennifer Maguire. “I am grateful to the San José Police Department for their quick actions in apprehending the suspect and their diligent efforts in continuing to solve homicides swiftly, ensuring the safety of our community and justice is served for the families of victims.”
