From September 4, 2025 to September 18, 2025, the San José Police Department received several reports of gang-motivated vandalism throughout the city of San José. The suspect vandalized private and public property, including City of San José property, causing thousands of dollars worth of damage.

Detectives with the SJPD Gang Investigations Unit (GIU) began a comprehensive investigation and identified Raymundo Villareal as the primary suspect, and obtained a warrant for his arrest. On September 30, 2025, GIU Detectives located and arrested Suspect Villareal in the city of San José. The suspect was booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail for gang-motivated felony vandalism.
In alignment with the Mayor and City Council's priorities, SJPD recently reassigned two additional Officers to the Gang Investigations Unit to address vandalism in the city of San José. As a result, this investigation and arrest were made possible.
“How our city looks affects how we feel — and we’re not going to let vandals or gang members bring us down,” said San José Mayor Matt Mahan. “I’m grateful to our police officers for holding this prolific suspect accountable and to the City Council for making enforcement of quality-of-life crimes a priority so we can keep our neighborhoods safe and clean.”
"The City has made addressing vandalism a priority,” stated San José City Manager Jennifer Maguire. “I commend the San José Police Department for its continued efforts to support our goal of maintaining safe and clean neighborhoods and public spaces.”
