On December 13, 2025, at approximately 6:28 PM, San José Police Department Patrol Officers responded to the 4900 block of McCoy Avenue for a report of a possible hit and run vehicle collision involving a pedestrian.
The preliminary investigation revealed the following:
An adult male pedestrian was located on the eastbound lane of McCoy Avenue suffering from major injuries. The pedestrian succumbed to his injuries and was ultimately pronounced deceased at the scene.
Traffic Investigations Unit (TIU) Detectives responded to the scene and began a comprehensive investigation into the incident. Detectives learned that the deceased adult male was a passenger of a 2018 black Chevrolet Volt, operated by an adult female driver. While the vehicle was traveling eastbound on McCoy Avenue, the adult male passenger exited the vehicle resulting in significant trauma. The female driver drove off and fled the scene prior to police arrival.
On December 15, 2025, Detectives located the suspect driver in the city of Sunnyvale and booked her into Santa Clara County Main Jail for felony hit and run.
This incident is the city's 37th fatal collision and 38th traffic death of 2025. This is the 19th pedestrian death of 2025.
The identity of the decedent will be released by the Santa Clara County Office of the Medical Examiner.
