SJPD Investigating Traffic Fatality #38 of 2025

On December 16, 2025, at approximately 11:01 AM, San José Police Department Patrol Officers responded to the area of North First Street and East Brokaw Road for a report of a traffic collision involving a vehicle and an electric bicycle.

The preliminary investigation revealed the following: 

A 2024 Lexus sedan, operated by an adult male driver, was traveling westbound on East Brokaw Road through the intersection of North First Street at a green light, when it struck an electric bicycle, operated by an adult male. The bicycle was traveling southbound on North First Street near the intersection.

The adult male bicyclist was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, and later stabilized. The adult male driver remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation.

On January 5, 2026, SJPD Traffic Investigations Unit Detectives were notified by the Santa Clara County Office of the Medical Examiner that the bicyclist had succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased on January 2, 2026.

This incident was the city's 38th fatal collision and 39th traffic death of 2025.

The identity of the decedent will be released by the Santa Clara County Office of the Medical Examiner.
