Between November 8, 2025 through November 9, 2025, San José Police Department Patrol Officers responded to numerous reports of vehicle burglaries that occurred at four separate multi-family housing complexes located in the 300 block of Cres Village Circle, 3400 block of Iron Point Drive, 3700 block of Casa Verde Street, and the 100 block of Baypointe Parkway. The preliminary investigation revealed that an adult male suspect entered the residential parking garages at the complexes and burglarized vehicles. In total, 114 vehicle burglary reports were received by SJPD. The unidentified suspect fled the scene prior to police arrival.

SJPD Burglary Unit Detectives began an extensive investigation and identified the suspect as Ramses Hernandez Rivera.

Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for the suspect and a search warrant for his associated residence. Suspect Hernandez Rivera was already in custody at Santa Clara County Main Jail for an unrelated crime, and was subsequently arrested for multiple vehicle burglaries.

On January 14, 2026, Detectives executed the search warrant at Suspect Hernandez Rivera's residence in the city of Gilroy and located evidence of the crime.

We would like to acknowledge the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office for continuing to hold Suspect Hernandez Rivera accountable by charging him with multiple counts of vehicle burglaries. SJPD would also like to thank the community for their willingness to assist in the investigation by providing us with several tips.

"Over a hundred victims were terrorized by one senseless suspect who thought his actions would go unnoticed," stated SJPD Chief of Police Paul Joseph. "SJPD made sure you got our full attention and now you will face the consequences of victimizing our San Jose community."

“San José is the safest big city in the nation for a reason — if you come to our city to commit a crime, you will be caught and pay the consequences,” said San José Mayor Matt Mahan. “Thank you to our Burglary Unit detectives for giving our residents peace of mind and criminals a second thought.”

“I want to commend the San José Police Department for their investigative work and persistence," said San José City Manager Jennifer Maguire. "This case reflects the importance of our One Team efforts and collaboration between our officers, the District Attorney’s Office, and community members. We remain committed to public safety.”
