On November 22, 2025, at approximately 7:18 PM, San José Police Department Patrol Officers responded to the 900 block of Summerside Drive for a report of a hit and run vehicle collision.
The preliminary investigation revealed the following:
A 1987 Toyota Odyssey recreational vehicle, occupied by an unknown driver, was traveling eastbound on Summerside Drive when it collided into multiple unoccupied parked vehicles. The unknown driver fled the scene prior to police arrival.
SJPD Traffic Investigations Unit Detectives began an extensive investigation and discovered that on November 24, 2025, SJPD responded to a local hospital for a report of a carjacking that occurred in the city of San José. The adult male patient reported to police that he was the registered owner of the Toyota Odyssey RV, and that it was stolen during a violent carjacking that resulted in head and chest injuries. The adult male later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
Information developed by the Santa Clara County Office of the Medical Examiner led Detectives to believe the carjacking report may have been falsified.
On January 8, 2026, the County of Santa Clara District Attorney's Crime Lab confirmed that evidence collected at the scene of the traffic collision matched that of the deceased registered owner, confirming his involvement as the suspect in the hit and run.
This incident was the city's 40th fatal collision and 41st traffic death of 2025.
The identity of the decedent will be released by the Santa Clara County Office of the Medical Examiner.
