On January 18, 2026, at approximately 11:26 PM, Officers responded to a report of an armed robbery that occurred at a convenience store located in the 800 block of Coleman Avenue. Two unidentified suspects entered the store and confronted the victim. One suspect brandished a knife at the victim, and the second suspect told the victim to open the cash register. On January 21, 2026, SJPD Robbery Unit detectives were notified that the red Corvette was in San José after an alert from SJPD’s Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) system. Patrol officers located and pursued the vehicle but lost sight of it. The Corvette was later found unoccupied and abandoned. Later that afternoon, the primary suspect, later identified as Mohamed Husein was involved an additional carjacking in San Jose that resulted in a multijurisdictional pursuit that prompted several officer involved shootings. During the subsequent investigation, Detectives identified Edward Macias, as the second suspect involved in the prior robberies.

Detectives quickly obtained a warrant for his arrest and a search warrant for his residence.

On January 22, 2026, Detectives, with the assistance of the Covert Response Unit (CRU), located and apprehended Suspect Macias in the city of Los Banos. During the search of his residence, Detectives located evidence related to the crimes. The suspect was booked into the Santa Clara County Jail for crimes related to robbery and conspiracy.
