On February 1, 2026, at approximately 4:48 PM, San José Police Department Patrol Officers responded to a report of a shooting in the parking lot of a business located in the 1500 block of Winchester Boulevard. Upon arrival, Officers located a 17-year-old juvenile victim suffering from at least one gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.
The SJPD Homicide Unit responded to the scene and began a comprehensive investigation into the incident. Detectives determined the shooting occurred following an altercation between the victim and two suspects. During the course of the investigation, Detectives utilized a combination of investigative methods, including automated license plate reader (ALPR) technology and public safety cameras, which helped rapidly advance the investigation and identify the suspect vehicle. Through continued investigative efforts, Detectives identified Jose Flores and John Flores as the primary suspects and obtained warrants for their arrest.
On February 3, 2026, Officers with Covert Response Unit (CRU) located and apprehended Suspect Jose Flores at a residence in San Jose and Suspect John Flores at a residence in Santa Clara. Both suspects were subsequently booked into the Santa Clara County Jail for murder.
The motive and circumstances surrounding the event are still under investigation.
The identity of the victim will be released by the Santa Clara County Office of the Medical Examiner.
This incident was the City's 1st homicide of 2026.
