SJPD Investigating Traffic Fatality #4 of 2026

On February 7, 2026, at approximately 6:20 AM, San José Police Department Patrol Officers responded to the area of Capitol Avenue and Longford Drive for a report of a hit-and-run traffic collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian. The preliminary investigation revealed the following:

An unknown vehicle occupied by an unknown driver was traveling northbound on Capitol Avenue approaching Longford Drive when it struck an adult female pedestrian who was crossing Capitol Avenue outside of any marked crosswalk.

The adult female pedestrian was transported to a local hospital where she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased.

The suspect vehicle fled the scene prior to police arrival.

This incident is the city's 4th fatal collision and 4th traffic death of 2026. This was also the 3rd pedestrian death of 2026.

The identity of the decedent will be released by the Santa Clara County Office of the Medical Examiner.
