SJPD Investigates Homicide #4 of 2026

MEDIA ADVISORY

On February 24, 2026, at approximately 11:38 AM, San José Police Department Patrol Officers responded to a commercial parking lot in the 500 Block of El Paseo de Saratoga in the city of San José for a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, Officers located an adult male and an adult female on the ground in the parking lot, both suffering from at least one gunshot wound each. Officers summoned medical personnel to the scene, where they ultimately pronounced both subjects deceased.

SJPD Homicide Unit Detectives responded to the scene and began a comprehensive investigation into the incident. During the course of the investigation, Detectives learned that the male, later identified as suspect Edgard Altamirano, and the female victim had a prior dating relationship that ended several months earlier. The preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect arrived at the location, where he confronted the victim and shot her multiple times before turning the firearm on himself, killing them both.  A firearm was recovered at the scene. 

The motive and circumstances surrounding the incident are still under investigation.  

This incident is being investigated as the City's 4th homicide of 2026.
