SJPD Investigating Traffic Fatality #6 of 2026

On March 16, 2026, at approximately 9:45 PM, San José Police Department Patrol Officers responded to the area of Almaden Expressway and San Jose Avenue for a report of a vehicle collision involving a pedestrian. The preliminary investigation revealed the following:

A 2007 grey Dodge SUV, occupied by an adult male driver, was traveling southbound on Almaden Expressway south of its intersection with San Jose Avenue when it struck an adult male pedestrian. The pedestrian was crossing Almaden Expressway westbound from the center median, south of the intersection and outside of any marked crosswalk. 

The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased. 

The driver remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation. 

This incident is the city's 6th fatal collision and 6th traffic death of 2026. This was also the 4th pedestrian death of 2026.

The identity of the decedent will be released by the Santa Clara County Office of the Medical Examiner.
