On April 11, 2026, at approximately 9:45 PM, San José Police Department Patrol Officers responded to the area of Almaden Expressway and San Jose Avenue to investigate a vehicle collision involving a pedestrian. The preliminary investigation revealed the following:
A 2008 Toyota sedan, occupied by an adult male driver, was traveling southbound on Almaden Expressway south of San Jose Avenue when it struck an adult male pedestrian who was crossing Almaden Expressway outside of any marked crosswalk.
The pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver remained on scene and displayed objective symptoms of alcohol intoxication. He was taken into custody and booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail on suspicion of DUI.
This incident is the city’s 14th fatal collision and 14th traffic death of 2026. This was also the 6th pedestrian death of 2026.
The identity of the decedent will be released by the Santa Clara County Office of the Medical Examiner.
